YORK 50+ FESTIVAL
presented by the York Older People's Assembly
27 Sept – 5 Oct 2008
Three and a half thousand people enjoyed the York 50+ Festival this year – over 2,000 were over 50, but all the generations participated with over 1,000 under 50, and over 400 children. The performances, displays, workshops, social events, religious celebrations, dance and fitness sessions, swimming and cycling were much enjoyed by hundreds of participants and audience members. Business participation ranged from health and beauty treatments to shows, legal advice and fountain pen evaluation, and wider involvement is hoped for next year. The Information Fair which launched the Festival was a great success and organisers were delighted that the Sheriff and his Lady took time to open the event and talk to the 30 stall-holders at the Guildhall. Full details of the Festival programme can by found at: www.yorkassembly.org.uk/festival2008

The Strong Breast Revolution. Whether they're shoulder-boulders, fried eggs or one of each, everyone has a word to say about breasts. A British re-imagining of the hit Canadian show, The Strong Breast Revolution is a hilarious & disarmingly honest production, examining the personal and public relationship we have with breasts. Performed by four British women: no airbrushing, no mood lighting; just an honest look, laugh and rant in support of their most talked about assets.
Why do we spend so much on pushing them up, strapping them down… and why is everyone so afraid of nipples? Have breasts become public property?

York 50+ Festival in Schools
The York Older People's Assembly would like to invite the participation of schools in the 2008 York 50+ Festival. This is a splendid opportunity to bridge the intergenerational gap in our community and here are a few ideas to spark action and participation:
Sports events; Workshops in art and photography; Children and adults creating music in workshops, leading to performance; Singing together — why not start an intergenerational group?; Projects in any and every subject, with kids working with parents and grandparents to produce work for display at parents' evenings, open days, etc. Contact Sue Lister, 50+ Festival Co-ordinator, on 01904 488 870 to discuss possibilities. The application deadline is mid- July - information and forms are available at www.yorkassembly.org.uk
